Spring 2020. My main project started as a journal. This project aimed at drawing a « food self-portrait »: using newspapers leftovers felt snobbishly accurate to depict myself. Also, cutting roughly in images illustrating articles to create new shapes and colors was magically alleviating the otherwise endless question « what form shall I draw ? ». Not to be figurative still not feeling legitimate to go abstract. Paper cuts gave me a kind of obvious ground: here they were, already there. Composition left room for chance and it felt seamless and joyful.
When I challenged myself at going bigger, I tended to become more brainy - as if It was a complex puzzle I had to solve - and more precious. I started wondering about the meaning of those shapes I was creating... endless mental wanderings again!
I thought I was building maps of imaginary territories and I went murals.
